Artists come to art in search of freedom. Fair. But somewhere along the way, freedom starts being confused with entitlement. You’re not above responsibility just because you call yourself an artist.
Art is not a licence to say anything, do anything, cross every line and hide behind the shield of “expression.” Freedom without discipline is chaos. Freedom without ethics is harm.
There are boundaries. Not imposed, but internal. You don’t steal. You don’t appropriate. You don’t exploit. You don’t make a mess and call it radical.
Sensitivity is not optional. It’s the price of entry into this space. You work with communities? Credit them. You borrow voices? Ask permission. You touch a raw subject? Be accountable.
This isn’t about being politically correct. It’s about not being a coward. Hiding behind freedom is cowardice. Owning your voice, understanding the impact, taking responsibility—that’s the real work.
